The Top Midfielders So Far… (Up To game Week 13)
Stats for Tackles+Interceptions and Carries*, per 90 mins
*Carries = Number of times the player controlled the ball with their feet
Some surprises here and some not so.
Lets start by club…
Chelsea have 4 players in the lists with Caicedo and James appearing in both lists - No Surprise there (yes, Reece James does often appear in midfield not just at right back)
Man City have 5 players in the lists, but all are in the Carries list with none in the Tackles+Interceptions - No real surprise there
SURPRISE! Wolves have 4 players in the lists. Should they really be so far adrift at the bottom of the league, you may ask?
Brentford, Sunderland and West Ham have no players in either list. Mmmm, I would have thought Jordan Henderson, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Paqueta would have sneaked into at least one of the lists
Now some of the Players…
Florentino Luis top of the Takles+Interceptions? And Hugo Bueno 4th in the same list. DOUBLE SURPRISE!
Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister fill 3 of the Top 20 places for Carries, but no Liverpool players in the Tackles+Interceptions. No Surprise, Liverpool have been lacking a bit of bite lately
Elliot Anderson 18th in the Tackles+Interceptions and 2nd in the Carries Lists. Moises Caicedo 3rd in the Tackles+Interceptions and 11th in the Carries Lists. Zero Surprise
Reece James 19th in the Tackles+Interceptions and 4th in the Carries Lists. Mildy Surprised, but I should have known there was a good chance he would be in both lists, just like I should have known that that curry last night was more than Mildly Hot
Final Verdict:
Yes, some players may be surprises in appearing in these top 20 lists but are they really surprises? The EPL is so competitive now and I think this season more so than past seasons, that each team, regardless of league position, is capable of having top performers amongst their squad. And those players will be hot property come the next two transfer windows.
Lets see.
