Why The Revamp?
From Stats to Takes…
Last season I focused on stats and analysis, but that all came to an abrupt end when the stats site I was using (sports-reference.com) severely curtailed the available data available after a 'cease and desist' order from their provider (I believe this was Opta, but I stand to be corrected on that)
So now the re-vamp. Its more about my take on what’s news, trending, controversial or whatever else is going on in the EPL. The hope is that I will be informative or entertaining enough to keep you coming back or better still subscribed. Lets Kick Off !

Vinicius Jnr to leave Real Madrid. Real or Slop?
A summer transfer before the season starts has just got to be highly unlikely and to me is predominantly media speculation driven by contract extension negotiations. Its likely a stalemate over salary demands that is creating the speculation. Apparently according to Spanish sources, Vinícius' clear desire is to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu. And new manager José Mourinho wants to keep his top players.
Likelihood vs. Rumor: Rumor / Negotiation Leverage.
Why its making headlines? Vinícius has entered the final 12 months of his contract (which runs through June 30, 2027). Contract talks hit an impasse when he sought salary with Kylian Mbappé (€30M gross annually), prompting fears that Real Madrid might consider a sale to avoid losing him for free or triggering a heavy 2026/27 loyalty bonus.
Rumored Destinations
Arsenal Interest: Arsenal (with Arteta supposedly and admirer of VJ) have explored the situation closely, marking Vinícius as an ambitious marquee target to follow their Premier League title triumph.
The Realism: While internal approval exists at the Emirates, no formal club-to-club negotiations have taken place. Yet.
Saudi Pro League (PIF / Al-Hilal) Interest: Saudi Arabia has maintained a standing, long-term offer to make Vinícius the face of their league with unprecedented financial terms.
The Realism: Highly unlikely at age 26, as Vinícius prioritizes competing for the UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d'Or in Europe.
Paris Saint-Germain & Chelsea, Man United Interest: Monitored from a distance due to the contract uncertainty, but really? PSG is a maybe but Utd and Chelsea is “I doubt it”.
Realism: None have submitted concrete bids and Utd pulled out of the Elliot Anderson transfer because the price was too high. Similarly PSG have pulled out of a Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) transfer auction for the same reason. Too rich a price. Chelsea would really need to sell before they could spend the fortune that it would take to prise VJ away from Real Madrid.
The Money: With a Release Clause of €1,000,000,000 (yes 1 Billion Euro - £840M), its obvious Real have no desire to sell.
A Negotiated Fee of €130M – €150M (£110M–£125M) could be Real Madrid's realistic evaluation if forced to sell in this, the final year of his deal. But even that could be on the low side in my estimation as to what they would want.
Wage Demands of €25M–€30M/year (£400,000 – £500,000/week) would make him the highest earner at almost any European club.
Which Rumored Teams Can Afford It?
Saudi Pro League: Yes (Unrestricted). Financial capability is not an issue; they can easily meet both the transfer fee and tax-free wages exceeding €50M/year.
Arsenal: Yes maybe, but with payroll implications. Arsenal's strong financial balance sheet and Premier League revenues allow them to afford an around €130M transfer fee under Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). However, offering £400,000+ per week wages would outstrip current top earner Bukayo Saka (£365,000/week) and break their established wage hierarchy.
Paris Saint-Germain: Yes. Following recent squad wage restructuring, PSG have the financial headroom, though their recent sporting policy favours younger team focused builds.
Chelsea / Manchester United / Bayern Munich: No / Very Very Unlikely. PSR constraints (Chelsea/Man Utd) and strict corporate wage caps (Bayern) make him too expensive for their tastes
OUR TAKE
Don’t get your hopes up Arsenal fans. A lot of smoke and mirrors here but not a lot of fire so far. I’m picking Vinicius Jnr will be on an improved contract at Real Madrid come season start.
Man Utd, Chelsea and Bayern? Just in it for the publicity if anything other than media tat.
Guimarães: Are Newcastle about to lose another Cog?
This transfer could have legs but is likely at a high-stakes standoff right now. Arsenal's interest seems genuine and personal terms between the player's camp and London are widely reported to be aligned, but no official club-to-club agreement or formal bid has been received (or maybe accepted?) by Newcastle.
The Reality of the Arsenal Link
Newcastle hold a firm negotiating position because Bruno Guimarães signed a five-year contract extension running through to June 2028. While a £100 million release clause existed in earlier windows, Newcastle maintain that no active, simple release clause remains usable for summer 2026. Any transfer requires a negotiated, direct club-to-club agreement.
Arsenal’s stance: The Gunners have been testing the waters via intermediaries with verbal proposals in the £55m–£65m range.
Newcastle’s stance: Eddie Howe and the Newcastle board view their captain as indispensable. Reports indicate Newcastle will outright reject anything around £70m and would only consider opening formal negotiations if an offer crosses £75m to £80m+ (read they will take £70m).
Current status: Despite heavy media speculation around personal terms being agreed on the player’s side, Newcastle maintain there has been no formal, official written bid submitted directly between the clubs.
Interest From Other Clubs
While Arsenal look like they are in the driver's seat among English clubs, several other teams have tracked the Brazilian midfielder:
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG): PSG have long been admirers of Guimarães and previously explored a move. However, their current focus in the market has shifted toward other midfield profiles, leaving them on the periphery unless the Arsenal negotiations collapse.
Manchester City: City monitored Guimarães as a potential long-term rotation or partner alongside Rodri, but they have not advanced any formal proposal this window. Now unlikely with Elliot Anderson arriving… unless Real Madrid came in with an offer for Rodri that City could not refuse (don’t think £35-40m will cut it, despite his age and length of current contract). If it did transpire that would give City the funds to make another big move. Although it doesn’t make sense for City to sell Rodri for £40m but buy Guimarães for £70m… does it?
Chelsea: Chelsea briefly evaluated whether to hijack Arsenal’s approach, but sources indicate they are prioritizing other positions due to their existing midfield options (how would you fit Guimarães, Enzo, Caicedo, Rogers and Palmer into that midfield and keep them all happy) and PSR constraints. If Enzo Fernandez forced a move (another rumour) then it could be on with Chelsea in the mix.
OUR TAKE
If Arsenal met Newcastle’s valuation for Guimarães and Real came calling for Rodri could this set off a domino affect? City in for Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea in for Jordan Henderson (oh yeah, that is already looking like a done deal), lets say Alex Scott then (Bournemouth). Hendo surely wouldn’t be a first choice for the starting eleven?
OTHER TRANSFER RUMOURS
Bradley Barcola from PSG to Liverpool. This one keeps being repeated. My gut tells me this will be the transfer window marquee signing for Liverpool, because they will want to have a least one new marquee after last season’s flops of Wirtz and Isak. But the £145m rumoured price has to be a joke…doesn’t it? 75% chance for me, but not at £145m. Come on.
Savinho from Manchester City to Spurs. Spurs inquired about him in the last window. City now with Semenyo and Cherki on that side of the pitch, so he is probably best to move on. I think this has a 90% chance.
£40m for 23-year-old England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City to Leeds Utd. Big price tag for someone who has not had a full season in the EPL yet. No doubting he could make the grade though. With new manager Mascera at City I think he will stay and see if he can oust Donnarumma, at least until the January transfer window, because then he will have an idea as to if Leeds are going to stay up. 33%chance of a transfer in this window.
