Who is spending and who’s not…

Ipswich out-stripping fellow promoted teams so far with a €98.65M spend

Today I'm going to take a look at the promoted teams and their transfer activity.

Starting with Coventry City, they have brought in four so far at a value of €48M. Hull City have brought in four also, at a value of €3.5M, but one of those is Zambrano from NK Maribor for an unknown fee, although his market value is only €1.5M, so it's likely Hull have only paid out about €5 million so far.

Ipswich Town have been the busiest. They have brought in eight players at a value of €98.65M, and their top two are Emersonn from FC Toulouse at €28M and Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City at €23.45M. What's noticeable here is the market value of Emersonn, a centre forward, which is €8M (according to TransferMark.com) , but Ipswich have paid €28 million. He's only 21, so maybe Ipswich have seen something here that others aren't seeing, and it remains to be seen whether he's going to be worth that money (Mmmm… too many ‘seen’s and ‘seeings’ in that sentence, but WTH).

OUR TAKE

Coventry look a bit light on transfers but maybe they are counting on the players that got them up. That has not always worked for promoted teams in the past

Hull look like they have favoured experience in the window so far with an average age of 29. That could be a smart move?

Coventry City transfer prospects

Coventry have possibly agreed a club record deal worth an initial £22.5m deal for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, 25, from Brighton & Hove Albion, who was at Coventry last season loan. This sum could be in question though because apparently Brighton value him at £40M. His market value is around £14M (transfermarkt.com), so something is not adding up here.

They have also been linked with Chelsea’s Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk, 25. Chelsea paid €70M for him in 2023 but now he could be worth closer to €20M and affordable for Coventry.

Coventry are also interested in Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, 23, but so are Hull City and Ipswich Town.

And City could lose winger Jahnoah Markelo, with Scotland’s Rangers showing interest.

OUR TAKE

Coventry can afford to spend more and stay within the financial rules, but they cannot afford over the top prices so opportunities could be limited

Hull City transfer prospects

Hull were today associated with 3 prospects to boost their squad further.

Jens Hjerto-Dahl a midfielder from Tromso (Norway), but Rangers and Cardiff City are also in the hunt.

Lucas Herrington a defender from Colorado Rapids. The deal is close to being done for £17M.

Mohamed-Ali Cho a striker from Nice. An agreement is close for a £17M fee.

As mentioned Hull could be in a race for Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, 23, with Coventry City and Ipswich Town.

OUR TAKE

Hull look like they are on the move, lets see what happens

Ipswich Town’s transfer prospects

Ipswich have done a fair bit of business so far so we might not see to much more. There is one rumour though, that they have been looking at Standard Liege's English defender Henry Lawrence, 24, a former Chelsea player.

Just reiterating that Ipswich are interested in Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, 23, but so are Coventry City and Ipswich Town.

OUR TAKE

With a €98.65M spend so far Ipswich are ahead of the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are done in this window.
