Gabriel & Calafiori Injured

Two absolutely key players for Arsenal this season have come away from the International break with injuries. What will be the impact for Arsenal?

Let’s get to the numbers…

Gabriel

Gabriel came off with a muscle injury in Brazil’s match against Senegal and Calafiori left Italy’s training camp with an injury. The big questions are:

  • Are they minor injuries or major?

  • If the injuries are serious, how long will they be out?

  • What cover does Arsenal have in defence?

Let’s take a look at Gabriel. The likely replacement may well be Mosquera. Here are his stats so far from this season per 90 Mins (Premier League only).

Calafiori

I would expect Lewis-Skelly to be the cover for Calafiori. But Lewis-Skelly has only played a total of 92 mins across 5 games in the Premier League so far this season. So it is really hard to gauge where he is at with the stats not telling us much. The fact that he did not start in any of those 5 games surely means he has not impressed Arteta so far this term.

The other option is Ben White, but he has had only one game and then then only played 70 mins, so there is even less of a handle on White and he would be a right back rather than a left back like Calafiori.

Final Verdict:

A potential worry for Arteta, but until we know the full extent of the Gabriel and Calafiori injuries it is all conjecture.

Lets see.
